05 How much tumor tissue is needed for the production of vaccine?

It is important to think about a future dendritic cell vaccination already during the tumor surgery when the veterinary surgeon removes the primary tumor. Please store some tumor tissue deep frozen in sterile saline. The rest of the tumor tissue should be send from your veterinarian to a reference laboratory for a patho-histological report. If a malignant diagnosis is confirmed in the report, you will talk with your home veterinarian about the treatment options and should consider the immune stimulation DC-vaccination.

The tumor specimen should have a size of at least 0,5x0,5x0,5cm. Please note that you can also use a biopsy punch 2 or 5 mm specimen. The tumor tissue is send together with the blood samples in a cooled Styrofoam box to PetBioCell.

For the production of the tumor tissue in our clean room laboratory, the tumor tissue is crushed, the cell walls broken up und a so called tumor lysate produced. This tumor lysate is used for the production of the new tumor vaccine. The rest of the lysate is stored deep frozen in a kryo tube at minus 80 degree C for future production of vaccines.
